Meet the Team: Alex Zanella
When you first meet Alex Zanella, you might assume from his beard and laid-back personality that he’s a Portland-based barista moonlighting as a vinyl-spinning DJ. While he does enjoy a well roasted cup of Joe and a solid Indie jam, he is far from a cliché. With his quick-wit and eagerness to help anyone from any department at any time, he is easily one of the most liked people at Events.com.
As a Business Development Rep and adventure-seeker who previously taught underprivileged students, Alex brings so much energy to his team and the company. He’s also low-key hilarious. And one of the best parts about him? He’s old school in that connecting-with-humans-face-to-face-kind-of-way: you can find him bouncing around the office balancing an open laptop on one arm while catching up with fellow employees.

When did you join Events.com?
Other than make everyone laugh, what do you do here?
As a Business Development Rep, I research organizations that put on events—from marathons to inspirational speakers to festivals—and determine if they might be a good fit for us. My goal is to make event directors’ lives easier and help them make more money by using the Events.com platform. I run them through demos and brainstorm concepts of streamlining additional revenue, increasing the flow of guests into the gates of their events, and ensuring enjoyable experiences from start to finish.
Where are you from?
I grew up on the mean streets of Woodland Hills, California, and attended college at University of California, Santa Barbara.
Tell us about your most memorable experience.
Trekking the W Circuit in Patagonia, Chile with nine of my friends. It was the most epic experience, because every corner we turned, and every mountain we climbed we encountered a different climate and landscape. We went during the offseason, and basically had the place to ourselves.
Sounds epic indeed. Job-wise, what were you doing before joining Events.com?
I was teaching English to underprivileged students in a low socioeconomic inner-city school. People often confuse me for Michelle Pfeiffer from Dangerous Minds, but I assure you I am not her.
What inspired you to join our team?
Being an avid event-goer myself, mostly food & beverage gatherings and concerts, I found that the current and future generations spend most of their time and energy doing the same: trading in their hard-earned money for experiences over possessions, and I wanted to become part of the process behind the scenes.
What's the best part of your job?
The people I work with—they are so supportive and driven. Also, learning something new and exciting every day.
Where is your favorite place you've traveled?
South America, but more specifically - Colombia. If you haven't yet been, go there!
Tell us what song you have on repeat at the moment.
It differs depending on my mood, but at this very moment - "French Press," by Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever (only song of theirs I know).
What's something your coworkers don't know about you?
I have been living blocks away from the beach for over 12 years, but still haven’t picked up surfing because of my fear of the unknown in the water :(
