Electric Zoo Recharges Festivals with Cashless Wristbands

September 02, 2015 - By: Sarah Pease

This Labor Day weekend, over 100,000 concertgoers will converge on idyllic Randall’s Island Park in New York City for the annual
Electric Zoo Festival
. Anyone who has gone to a major event knows how annoying keeping track of a purse or wallet can be. And heaven forbid you run out of money before you buy a jumbo pretzel. That’s why this year Electric Zoo is transforming the user experience by making the three-day festival 100% cashless.
Paying the ‘EZ’ Way
At Electric Zoo, going cashless is not just convenient; it’s mandatory. High tech,
RFID-enabled wristbands
act as ticket and wallet combined, which are then used to purchase food, beverage, and merchandise. There’s even an official currency: “EZ Bucks,” which is how all items are marked and sold. Attendees can Top-Up their wristband before they arrive and keep adding to their balance via a mobile app or at Top-Up stations located throughout the festival. Any unspent EZ Bucks will be refunded (insert happy dance).
Other advantages of cashless wristbands include:

  •      Faster transaction times: less time in line means more time having fun.
  •      Peace of mind: nothing for you to lose or someone else to steal.
  •      An overall enhanced guest experience!

In 2014, festival veterans
Austin City Limits (ACL) Music Festival
and
Lollapalooza
joined the cashless wristband movement. The trend of going cashless has also carried over to major theme parks like SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, which offers cashless wristbands
in their waterparks
and for
special events
. And of course, the Disney
MagicBand
, which makes your visit practically perfect in every way.
